Intro Post

Hello! I’ve seen these intro posts and appreciated them on other journals, so thought it was time to finally sit down and do a quick one for myself.

I use she/her, late-thirties, currently living on the east coast in the U.S. (but I’ve lived in some other pretty neat places and hope to continue moving around/exploring in the coming years…California, Italy, and South Korea have been my favorite places to live, they’re each wonderful in their own ways!)

Fandoms I’m currently active in are Star Wars and Guardian for the most part, but in the past I’ve gone through high intensity periods of adoring many, many things under the sun, and sometimes dip my toes back into, including but not limited to: Highlander, X-Files, Stargate(s), Gundam Wing, Hikaru no Go, Farscape, Harry Potter, The Untamed… I was even quite into Supernatural for a time. XD Oh, and I adore the Dragon Age and Witcher series of video games.

Oh wow you've lived in some pretty varied places! I've "technically" been to South Korea in that my mom was pregnant with me when she was stationed there lmao but I've only ever lived in the US.

Have you played all three DA games? Who's your favorite character :3c I've only played a little bit of Inquisition, but I loved DA2 and Origins. I seriously only bought the games because I saw someone posting fanart of Fenris and fell in love with him lmao. I can't start a new save without tripping over myself trying to get his affection... which was fun when I was attempting to romance Anders lmao

Yo, awesome to meet another DA lover! I think my favorite character overall would have to be Leliana... she's just so complex and badass and sarcastic and surprisingly vulnerable when you see her at just the right angle, and her character design is gorgeous... I just like her a lot! However, I absolutely and without fail HAVE to romance Fenris when I play DA2, he's just...yes. Him. I really like Cullen too, his character arc through all three games really is pretty fascinating, I think they did a good job with his story, what he suffered through, what the consequences of that were, the growth he showed while still being flawed and a work-in-progress... man, I could keep going on, so many of the characters in those games are absolute treats to delve into and explore.

Are you looking forward to Dragon Age 4? Hopefully it lives up to the best parts of its predecessors!

Ooh Leliana is a good one. I was initially going to romance Zevran in my first DA:O playthrough, but I ended up leaving him for Leliana and was much happier for it. She's definitely a really fun character.

I'm not really sure what to think about DA4 tbh haha I don't know a lot about what's coming, but I suppose my biggest fear is that the gameplay will be a lot like Inquisition, which I found pretty overwhelming. I'm definitely interested in seeing where they take the series, though!

I left a little while back! There are definitely things to miss about being out west, but I do love all four seasons, so actually getting to experience some SNOW again this winter has been pretty great. XD

I actually enjoyed the mechanics in Inquisition, but I can see where someone might easily find them to be A Lot. But really, if they keep making awesome characters I can love and engaging stories in a world I love running around in, I'll keep coming back!

Hi! Dropping in from Snowflake.

Highlander, Stargate(s) and FARSCAPE!!! I just looked at those three fandoms and had the notion how diverse my experience was with all of them. Highlander was a smaller, close-knit fandom where everybody knew everyone else. Stargate was a vibrant behemoth. And Farscape was all about the show for me, I never delved into fandom (even though I discovered in 2001 that fandom was a thing that did exist on the internet).

Guardian and The Untamed are all over my f-list, but I've still only managed to watch one ep of Guardian. o_O

Hello there! I wasn't interacting much with fandom back when I was heavier into those shows, more just in 'consumption of fanworks' mode, but yes, everything you said there makes perfect sense to me regardless! Highlander always had a smaller, tighter vibe to it, Stargate was so very sprawling with such a wonderful bounty of works created for it, and Farscape was really just so well-produced and the characters were taken on such wonderful continuity arcs, that it was really easy to get most of the pay-off as a fan from the show itself rather than feeling the need to explore fandom quite so much for emotional pay-off/satisfaction.

The Untamed is great fun and I ended up enjoying it quite a bit, and the fandom is definitely on the larger side and putting out tons of great content. But honestly Guardian really does hold my heart right now, and I'm finding it more re-watchable between the two... it's not a show I would recommend to people who have trouble getting past occasional low production values/occasional very bad CGI or who aren't interested in easing past some cheesy moments and plot holes. But for people who are in it for the absolutely beautifully emotional character moments and deep, meaningful connections... yeah, that show delivers in spades.

Thanks for your comments about Guardian. In the first ep, it was so hard for me to see the two main actors as their characters because they looked so young! *g* But I've got the eps, so I shouldn't waste them, right? *g*
